The weaver bird (or Baya Topchara as it is commonly called in Nepal) is also known as the engineer charo (bird) because of its startling ability to build an artistic nest. My original interest was to photograph the female Baya Weaver flying into the nest to deliver food, and to capture images of the beauty and grace of the bird in this behaviour. The nest construction pattern at different stages of nest and variations in the nest microclimate, i.e., temperature and light intensity were assessed in different nests of Baya weaver (Ploceus philippinus) between November 2002 and March 2003 in Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu, India.
