First, I want to preface this by saying that I do not normally attack worship songs and I tend to give a lot of popular songs poetic license because I like the way they sound and they have meaning for me. The “Reckless Love” chorus provides an example of the way God’s love can appear reckless when it reminds us that God “leaves the 99,” a reference to the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15. Christ’s love is first for His Father in wanting the Courts of the Gentiles to be free from interference of one coming to Him.

The word of God teaches us that He plans every action He makes by thinking them through and because He is perfect, any action God takes is perfect. Just because it is in the house of God, doesn’t make it of the house of God. “God’s love is NOT reckless. God’s love is never described as reckless, careless, rash, irresponsible, or impetuous. That is totally fine, but why is it necessary to condemn his expression of worship just because you cannot see that perspective. From his perspective he is able to see God’s love, maybe even the actions God Himself as reckless, but your theology does not permit you to see it that way. To sing of God’s “reckless love” is to downplay his omnipotence and sovereignty in favor of a weaker, more vulnerable and “approachable” version of him. God’s Ways Are Not Ours. God's love is selfless, sacrificial, undeserved, marvelous, merciful, life-giving, incomprehensible, eternal, limitless, but it is not reckless. Learning About God’s Love. God doesn’t seem to have spontaneous decisions made anywhere in scripture for us to think that His love is reckless. Calling God's love reckless distorts that love by comparing it to a youthful infatuation that acts in an impulsive and irrational manner based on intense but wavering feelings. In fact, God’s love is described as being thoughtful, sacrificial, gracious, caring and everlasting. The song “reckless love” IS a really good song and I like it…except for the title and intended takeaway message of it. Poetic license is one thing, lying … Let me explain why. "God's love is the very antithesis of recklessness. All of the uses of the word ‘reckless’ in the Bible are negative. It is a passionate love, a fiery love, a demanding love, and a selfless act of love, as was the cross. Is God's love reckless?
